Interview Tips

✓ Do not smoke before the interview - the smell is not pleasant and may put the interviewer off.

✓ Give a firm handshake when you greet the interviewer and maintain eye contact throughout the interview.

✓ Never interrupt the interviewer - if you have any questions wait until the end.

✓ Always have a question prepared to ask at the end of the interview.

✓ Prepare for your interview by researching the company’s website and reading the job spec

✓ Prepare your journey in advance so you are not late, flustered or stressed by the time you arrive at the interview.

✓ Do not chew gum at the interview.

✓ Dress to impress! Always endeavour to wear a suit to your interview. If you do not have a formal suit than a clean smart shirt and trousers/skirt will have the same effect.

✓ Never be late for an interview.

✓ Speak slowly and clearly, be friendly and relaxed but not laid back.

Body language is very important in an interview. Do not cross your arms and do not swear.

✓ Thank your interviewer at the end of the interview and ask them when they will make a decision, it’s good to look interested and keen.
